Senior Researcher
About Sønr
Sønr is an amazing market intelligence company, helping some of the world’s largest insurance businesses navigate a rapidly changing environment.
We help our clients to understand trends, identify opportunities, and forge successful partnerships with best-in-class technology providers that will enable them to realise these opportunities.
We do this by combining our unparalleled data on millions of start and scale-ups, globally, with our research and analyst capabilities. This combination enables us to provide valuable intel to our customers, and also support them to translate it into actionable insight on trends, then scout, assess and validate the right partners to work with.
With strong year-on-year growth and exciting opportunities ahead, we are looking for a dynamic Senior Researcher to join our team.
The Role
As a Senior Researcher, you will play a key role in delivering actionable insights and creating exceptional experiences for our clients. Your work will directly support clients in identifying market trends, scouting emerging companies, and validating opportunities. You will also contribute to Sønr’s platform development and thought leadership, influencing the direction of the business.
This is a client-facing role, working with senior stakeholders across global insurers. You will need to be highly organised, analytical, and an excellent communicator, with the ability to lead research projects from scoping through to presentation.
By listening to and working closely with our clients, we expect you to understand the challenges they have. As a result, you’ll be brilliantly placed to help us figure out ways to grow our relationship with them – both on a personal, but also commercial basis.
Responsibilities
Our work with clients is varied and so unsurprisingly so is this role. But we can summarise your key responsibilities into 4 key areas:
Client-Focused Research
- Build fantastic relationships with your clients and work with our client team to deliver a great experience, reduce churn and identify exciting new opportunities.
- Lead bespoke research projects, managing scope and timelines to deliver actionable insights and recommendations.
- Conduct research on emerging trends and start-ups, including interviews with founders and other key stakeholders.
- Prepare and present findings in reports, workshops, and meetings to senior and board-level stakeholders.
- Respond to ad-hoc client research requests, such as identifying partnership opportunities or assessing competitor activity.
- Use the insight you gain to contribute to client development plans.
Support new business activity by representing our research capabilities in discussions with prospective clients.
Data Analysis and Insight Development
- Analyse data from the Sønr platform, identifying the “so what” for client needs.
- Contribute to Sønr’s quarterly Insurtech Briefings, research reports, and proprietary series such as Insurtech 100 and Future50.
- Ensure Sønr’s data remains accurate and up-to-date, meeting 24-hour SLAs for platform requests.
Platform Enhancement
- Collaborate with internal teams to enhance Sønr’s platform functionality and value for clients.
- Provide insights into new trends, sectors, and technologies to evolve Sønr’s offerings.
What We Are Looking For
Essential Skills
Analytical Expertise
- Experience in gathering, analysing and interpreting data from a range of sources.
- The ability to translate this information into a series of actionable insights and recommendations.
- Strong data analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel.
Exceptional Communication
- Proven ability to create engaging, visually appealing reports and presentations.
- Confidence in presenting insights to senior stakeholders, both virtually and in-person.
- Ability to translate customers needs/requirements into a clear approach and be able to articulate how it meets our customer’s needs.
- Take the lead with your Sønr colleagues in scoping and planning projects.
Client Relationship Management
- Being comfortable engaging directly with clients to understand their needs, scope projects, and deliver solutions.
- Experience in building long-term relationships with stakeholders.
- Enjoy meeting up at events as well as in-person in client’s offices and virtually.
Desirable Experience
- A background in insurance, innovation, or the start-up ecosystem.
- Previous experience in consultancy or research roles (but please note, this is a hands-on role – we need ‘doers’).
- Familiarity with open innovation and market intelligence tools.
Personal Attributes
- Organised – naturally, you’ll need to be really organised and comfortable (and capable) of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Curious – you’ll be exposed to lots of different technologies, markets, trends and clients and so you’ll need to enjoy the process of learning about new stuff (every day!).
- Proactive – this is a role to make your own. We’ll give you the support you need but want you to act on opportunities, delivering the solution and identifying ways to deepen your client relationships.
- Collaborative – we want you to use your initiative, but we pride ourselves on how we work as a team to solve challenges on behalf of our clients, but also internally.
What We Offer
- A flexible, remote-friendly work environment with global opportunities.
- Competitive salary and benefits, including a discretionary bonus scheme and pension.
- 28+ days of annual leave, plus additional perks such as team retreats and events.
- Access to cutting-edge technology and the chance to work with some of the industry’s most influential leaders.
- A culture of innovation, where your ideas can shape the future of Sønr and the insurance industry.
