Junior Researcher
About Sønr
Sønr is at the forefront of insurance innovation and transformation. We partner with insurers, reinsurers, brokers, and investors worldwide to deliver unparalleled insights and help them navigate a rapidly evolving market.
Our unique offering combines world-class research services with cutting-edge SaaS tools, enabling our clients to scout opportunities, validate strategies, and stay ahead of their competition.
We’re looking for a Junior Researcher to join us and play a key role in delivering brilliant insights to our clients and ensuring the data within the Sønr platform is up to scratch.
The Role
As a Junior Researcher, you will play a key role in helping us to deliver actionable insights and creating exceptional experiences for our clients. Your work will support clients in identifying market trends, scouting emerging companies, and validating opportunities.
You will need to be highly organised, analytical, and an excellent communicator – this role will see you work directly with our clients to answer research requests within a set timeframe, deliver regular news updates, and support the needs of our Sønr Platform subscribers.
To do this you’ll work closely with and be supported by Emily and the wider research team to help deliver reports, projects and other ad-hoc requests as they come up.
Responsibilities
Client-Focused Research
- Respond to ad-hoc research requests, helping our clients with their scouting, competitor insights and news update needs.
- Meet 24-hour SLAs for platform information requests.
- Support the research team with bespoke projects, including collating information, identifying trends, summarising learnings and writing recommendations.
- Deliver regular industry news updates to our clients, and contribute content to our fortnightly newsletter, Sønws.
Data Analysis and Insight Development
- Analyse data from the Sønr platform, identifying the “so what” for client needs.
- Contribute to Sønr’s quarterly Insurtech Briefings, research reports, and proprietary series such as Insurtech100 and Future50.
- Research and write summary trend reports.
- Conduct interviews.
- Help to ensure Sønr’s data remains accurate and up-to-date.
Platform Enhancement
- Work with internal teams to make sure the Sønr platform is easy to use and adds value for our clients.
- Provide insights into new trends, sectors, and technologies to evolve Sønr’s offerings.
What We Are Looking For
Essential Skills
- Curiosity
- You have to enjoy learning about new technology and how the world is changing. The questions we’re asked by our clients vary so much that you’ll continually be exposed to stuff that’s new to you. If you don’t enjoy that sort of environment, it’s probably not for you!
- An Analytical Mind
- Lots of what we’re tasked with doing is helping our customers to make the complex simple – from how a market is evolving to finding the right technology providers. To do this you’ll probably need to be comfortable with trying to understand information from lots of different sources and then forming an opinion. Previous experience of doing this in other roles would be helpful.
- Data analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel.
- Strong Communication
- We’re not expecting you to be an expert overnight, but you will need to demonstrate the ability to form and express your opinion on topics.
- Be confident communicating project updates and your findings to the wider research team, as well as directly with clients, when needed.
- You will also need strong written English skills as you provide input to projects and prepare client-facing documents like company profiles, newsletters and reports.
- Working with your Sønr colleagues to figure out how to deliver on projects.
- Brilliant Time Management and Organisation
- Ability to set and deliver work to a deadline – both as part of a group or individual project.
- Confident enough to flag challenges and seek to find a solution with your colleagues.
- Comfortable in juggling multiple projects and prioritising your workload based on deadlines.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working in a similar role – maybe in an insurer, agency or consultancy.
- Some familiarity with insurance, innovation, or the start-up ecosystem.
Personal Attributes
- Organised – naturally, you’ll need to be really organised and comfortable (and capable) in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Curious – you’ll be exposed to lots of different technologies, markets, trends and clients and so you’ll need to enjoy the process of learning about new stuff (every day!).
- Proactive – this is a role to make your own. We’ll give you the support you need but want you to act on opportunities.
- Collaborative – we want you to use your initiative, but we pride ourselves on how we work as a team to solve challenges on behalf of our clients.
What We Offer
- A flexible, remote-friendly work environment with global opportunities.
- Competitive salary and benefits, including a discretionary bonus scheme and pension.
- 28+ days of annual leave, plus additional perks such as team retreats and events.
- Access to cutting-edge technology and the chance to work with some of the industry’s most influential leaders.
- A culture of innovation, where your ideas can shape the future of Sønr and the insurance industry.
