About Sønr

What is Sønr?

Sønr is a market intelligence company for the insurance industry. We track over 6 million companies and ten years of insurance innovation, so insurers can spot change early and make better decisions about technology, partners and growth. Our platform is backed by a team of researchers and analysts.

Who uses Sønr?

Traditionally, innovation, strategy and venture teams at insurers, reinsurers and brokers, plus the startups, investors and consultants who work with them. More and more, we also work with practitioners across our clients’ businesses, in claims, underwriting, distribution and beyond. We work with more than 50 tier one insurance clients, including Aviva, Generali, QBE, Lloyd’s, MSIG, Chaucer and RGA. Read their stories.

Which parts of insurance does Sønr cover?

All lines of insurance, and the whole ecosystem around them: insurers, reinsurers, brokers, managing general agents (MGAs), consultancies, law firms, technology providers, startups and investors.

How is Sønr different from other market intelligence businesses?

We only do insurance. Our research team is domain-specific and domain-deep, and has worked with hundreds of insurers around the world, so our intelligence reflects how insurance really works.

Where is Sønr based?

Our head office is in Bristol, UK. Our clients operate in over 60 countries around the world, including the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, Japan and Australia.

How long has Sønr been around?

Since 2016. In that time our data has built up, and so has our understanding of the market, how our clients work, and how to extract the most accurate and valuable intelligence from it.

Who founded Sønr?

Sønr was founded in 2016 by Matt Connolly, who is still its CEO. The company is owned by Tällt Ventures Limited, registered in the UK.

Our data

Where does Sønr’s data come from?

Ten years of our own research: tracking startups, technology and market moves, plus the work our analysts do with clients. We also run the technology behind programmes such as Lloyd’s Lab. Much of this isn’t on the open web, so general-purpose AI tools haven’t been trained on it.

How is Sønr different from asking a general AI tool?

General AI tools only know what’s public. Sønr’s agent teams are built on ten years of experience doing this work, they run on data no one else has, and they draw on what we’ve learned working with hundreds of insurance companies around the world.

How many companies does Sønr track?

Over 6 million, from early-stage startups to established technology providers.

How up to date is Sønr’s data?

We scan the market continuously, so new companies, funding rounds and partnerships show up quickly.

Is our data kept private? Do you train AI on it?

No, we never train AI on your data, and it stays private and secure. After ten years of working with some of the largest insurance companies in the world, we know how to keep sensitive information safe.
