Find out moreInshur is a New-York-based mobile platform for commercial auto insurance. The company has built a data-led insurance platform, designed to power and protect the new economy players in mobility, delivery and transportation.
Inshur's platform enables drivers to receive a quote, purchase and service an insurance policy via their smartphone within minutes. Initially used by New York’s Uber drivers it now serves tens of thousands of drivers in New York, the UK, and the Netherlands.
Owner operator drivers that work for black car bases like Uber, Lyft, Gett and car service/taxi bases use the camera on their smartphones to scan their license in the Inshur app, which combines with user input data and delivers a range of quotes from insurance carriers. Drivers can benefit with Inshur from their exclusive insurance rate and compare coverage, make purchases using credit/debit cards with no fees, transfer existing policies to the app, save and upload documents in the app to your phone, report claims, make policy changes and get real-time alerts for items needing attention.
In 2018 Inshur established offices in London.
In 2019, Inshur announced a partnership with ride-hailing giant Uber to provide a range of insurance services to drivers who use the Uber app. The fully-digital service looks to address the difficulties that private hire drivers have when purchasing specialist insurance, while at the same time rewarding safe driving; a survey reveals that more than 50% of drivers waited a day or more for their policies, with 11% waiting for one to two weeks. Later that same year, Inshur hired former Legal Director of Insurance, EMEA of Uber, Simon Logan, as its new VP of Commercial and Legal.
Inshur raised $7m in Series A funding in early 2019, led by Munich Re Ventures. Later in the year, in August, Inshur raised an additional $1.5m for its Series A from Viola FinTech.
In 2020 Inshur partnered with Uber again, this time in the Netherlands, to offer flexible digital insurance to its drivers.
In September 2020, Inshur partnered with Wakam (La Parisienne Assurances) to launch a new insurance product for Uber/private hire drivers across The Netherlands, which will enable drivers to quote and buy insurance immediately online with just a few clicks.
In July 2021 Inshur announced it had raised $35m in Series B funding to support its growth plans.
In April 2023 it announced that it acquired American Business Insurance Services (ABI). The deal is said to expand Inshur’s operations in the United States. Through the acquisition the company hopes to increase its growth in 2023 by more than 200%. ABI insures more than 50,000 vehicles throughout the US. As a result of the deal Inshur will now serve on-demand drivers and fleets in all 50 states.
