IMS Tech (part of Trak Global Group) overview

IMS (Insurance & Mobility Solutions), part of Trak Global Group, is a telematics company providing cutting edge solutions to the insurance market, dealing mostly within the auto insurance sector. It converges in-car infotainment, automotive telematics, mobile telematics and wireless technology to create a suite of solutions for insurance companies, governments, fleets and individual drivers.

IMS’ DriveSync platform utilises IoT, smart devices, infrastructure, and data with advanced analytics to provide intelligent services to drivers. IMS has developed a portfolio of more than 200 connected car patents and patents-pending across a diverse range of technologies worldwide.

In 2018, IMS was acquired by Trak Global Group for an undisclosed amount to help it scale in the North American Market. At the time of acquisition, IMS was the third largest insurance telematics business in North America, and had over 130 patents associated with connected car services.

In January 2020 IMS announced the new availability of the UBI platform (on which Carrot Insurance is built) in North America. The platform enables US and Canadian insurers to scale their UBI programs, and offer access to eight years worth of insights and learnings in driving scores.

In March 2020 IMS partnered with P&C insurer Amerisure to offer a commercial fleet UBI telematics program in Michigan, USA. IMS will provide Amerisure with its commercial fleet telematics technology, enabling Amerisure and its users to receive scoring, advice and rewards based on their driving behaviour.

The following month, IMS announced the availability if a UBI program model for North American insurers that enable the implementation of a mileage-based UBI product in just a matter of weeks.

In December 2020, IMS launched One App, a new development framework for telematics apps. Its 'Dynamic Cards' system, which enables plug-and-play content of any format - including video, graphics and text - to be displayed at the right time and situation (e.g. during behaviour coaching or in the event of an incident), aims to improve user engagement.

In May 2021 More Than launched a new usage-based auto insurance product after their research revealed one in four drivers expected to commute less over the next compared to pre-pandemic times. The new auto insurance product was developed in partnership with IMS, and uses a connected smart device to record mileage. The two companies previously worked together on More Than's Smart Wheels Black Box product.

IMS has over 140 employees distributed across key engineering and support centres in North America, Europe and the Middle East, and its headquarters are located in Waterloo, Ontario. IMS was founded in 1999 by Dr. Otman Basir, the company’s CEO and President.
