Find out moreEthos is a digital life insurance company that offers 'modern, ethical life insurance' that is quick and simple to purchase. According to the company, users can apply and qualify for a policy in around 10 minutes, without having to go through medical or blood tests. Instead Ethos uses data science and predictive analytics to estimate factors such as an individuals life expectancy.
In June 2018, Ethos announced it had partnered with Assurity Life and Munich Re to continue their mission of making life insurance more accessible for American families. In 2019, also, they formed an alliance with Franklin Madison which would see them offer their term life insurance product to the 3,500+ financial institutions that Franklin Madison serves.
In August 2019 the company raised a $60m Series C round led by Google Ventures. The round was Ethos' third funding round in just over a year; the company raised $106.5m in 14 months. Investors include Accel, Downey Ventures, Goldman Sachs, Sequoia Capital, Stanford University and more. After its Series C round, the company was valued at more than $400m.
Between its second and third round of funding, Ethos noted it had more than doubled its team, and quadrupled its revenue.
Five years after it was founded, Ethos reached a reported valuation of $2bn after raising a $200m Series D round in May 2021. The company revealed its revenue and users had each grown by over 500% year-over-year.
The company raised a further $100m for its Series D in July 2021, bringing Ethos's valuation to $2.7 billion.
In October 2021 Ethos increased the size of the life insurance policies it will offer - providing policies up to $2 million for Americans aged 20-50, and doubling the policy limit for those 51-60, and 61-65. The company also reported revenue and users have each grown by more than 600% YoY, and the company expects to issue $20 billion of life insurance coverage in 2021.
In January 2022 Ethos acquired wills and trusts specialist Tomorrow. The acquired company has seen high growth, with over 600,000 users creating legal wills. Ethos will begin offering policies through the Tomorrow app by mid-2022.
In April 2022 Ethos launched a new office in Bengaluru, India, focused on R&D, data analytics, and business delivery for its next growth phase. The move marks the latest in a string of strategically placed office set-ups, with the insurtech also having hubs in San Francisco, Seattle and Singapore. Ethos, which has a valuation of $2.7bn, issued $13bn in life insurance coverage last year alone and reported overall revenue and user growth of 600% YoY in 2021.
In October 2022 Ethos partnered with AIP Marketing Alliance, an Integrity company to provide its life insurance products through AIP's agents. The partnership comes as life insurance continues to be an area where many Americans are on average uninsured or underinsured.
During January 2023 CoverEase announced the addition of Ethos life insurance to its online offering. Ethos will enable CoverEase customers to instantly quote and purchase life insurance up to a value of $2m.
