Chisel.ai

Chisel is a Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI platform for automated document management, covering document redaction, summarisation, analysis, and search. Its purpose-built solution for commercial insurance carriers and brokers reads unstructured insurance data around 400x faster than a human – and with much greater accuracy. It can automatically recognise over 500 insurance-specific data points including limits, premiums, deductibles, coverages, exclusions, and more.

In 2018, Chisel announced that it had been selected as finalists for ACORD's Innovation challenge, competing against the likes of Apexa, Digital Fineprint, Kovrr and Rosie. They were later crowned winners, after advancing through multiple rounds of live pitches, beating almost 100 other contestants in the process. In 2019, too, Zurich North America announced they had chosen Chisel and zesty.ai to represent the nation at the Zurich Innovation World Championship, having beaten out over 450 startups from 49 countries. The two startups competed against each other as well as two Insurtechs each from Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Europe, the Middle East & Africa. Chisel would go on to take top spot, with zesty.ai placing in second.

While attending the Dig|In 2019 insurance technology conference in Austin, Chisel unveiled Submission Triage, an AI-powered intelligent workflow solution that enables commercial insurance carriers to auto-route and auto-decline submissions, dramatically expanding their quoting and underwriting capacity without bulking out their workforce.

Later in 2019, during ITC Connect, Chisel announced it had launched a new version of its AI-powered policy check solution, with enhanced features. The latest development enables underwriters to spot errors and resolve them in a much easier fashion, and also enables policies to be validated much more quickly.

In July 2021 Chisel AI announced a strategic partnership with Xceedance to deliver an on-demand, AI-powered policy checking and review technology and services to commercial brokers and agents. 

On 19 April 2022 the company shut down its operations.
