In the UK, operations are conducted through six regional hubs to utilise local market knowledge and relationships and 98% of their work is done in one of their seven Centres of Excellence across the country.
In 2012 Aviva UK HomeSun's solar portfolio for £100m, amounting to around 7,000 solar photovoltaic systems, totalling around 23MW.
During July 2014 the company agreed a new seven-year deal with Vodafone to provide a range of communications services including cloud storage. By that point the two had been partners for 17 years already.
Aviva reported that 59% of its 2017 fiscal year operating profit came from UK insurance business with the remaining 41% coming from non-UK based insurance businesses & Aviva Investors.
In 2018, Aviva launched a free dash cam functionality within the Aviva Drive app, streamlining the insurance claims process for motorists by allowing them to send photos directly from their smartphone. Later in the year, they also launched AvivaPlus in the UK, a new subscription-style insurance product which offers flexible insurance coverage, monthly payments with no APR, no charges for cancellation or changes, and a renewal price guarantee for home and car insurance.
During February 2021 the company partnered with leading UK cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support. The intention was to help its protection customers living with cancer get access to the emotional, clinical and financial support.
Zego and Aviva agreed a deal to provide fleet insurance in March 2022. The arrangement combines Zego's behavioural insight, data and telematics capabilities with Aviva’s experience and expertise in fleet underwriting and claims.
Early in April 2022 Aviva partnered with Tractable to Tractable's AI to improve the efficiency and accuracy of repairs. The arrangement was intended to enable remote assessment of repair estimates and increase consistency of diagnosis, lowering the number of errors. The technology was to be rolled out across the UK repair network including Solus (Aviva’s exclusive chain of body work establishments).
Aviva agreed a deal with specialist managing general agent Azur Underwriting Ltd to acquire its high-net-worth personal lines business in the UK and Ireland during August 2022. It was undertaken to support Aviva’s ambition to become the market leader in high-net-worth personal lines and follows significant growth in the Aviva Private Clients business.
Succession Wealth was acquired in August 2022 in a deal that significantly improved the market position of Aviva in the UK wealth market, also enhancing its ability to offer high-quality financial advice to a large number of customers.
In September 2022 Aviva agreed an extension of its partnership with Lucida Group to provide non-standard car insurance for a further three years. It followed a successful 12-month pilot programme with Right Choice Insurance Brokers (RCIB).
During October 2022 Aviva rolled out a new product via its Quotemehappy.com offering. It is a car insurance product that will be available on all price comparison websites. The new offering, Quotemehappy.com Essentials, provides a comprehensive car insurance and complements the already existing Quotemehappy.com Plus, a higher tier car insurance product.
The company also announced in October a strategic partnership with US-based insurer Lemonade. This entails Aviva serving as Lemonade's reinsurance partner.
In 2022 the life insurance part of Aviva UK enjoyed a resilient trading performance despite the challenging economic environment. According to CEO Doug Brown, life insurance has progressed well towards its strategic aims and shifting the portfolio towards wealth and insurance. In the same year Aviva accounted for 20% of the UK life insurance market, making it the largest player. The General Insurance section also recorded similar progress. However, the company's combined operating ratio dropped to 96.1% in 2022, down from 94.6%, and its operating profit fell 3% to £309m.
That year Aviva UK paid out 50,600 individual protection claims, amounting to £1.07bn. This was the third consecutive year payments topped £1bn. Of all the individual protection claims that were lodged, 98.3% were paid, the highest rate since 2015. Between 2018 and 2022 the company paid out on over 200,000 individual protection claims in the country.
During March 2023 the company renewed its relationship with cloud insurance platform software provider Majesco. Aviva UK currently uses Majesco Loss Control and Majesco GuideStream to provide intelligent insights and enhance loss control data collection.
Aviva launched in March 2023 a AI-led pension tracing proposition. The company hopes it will be a market leading proposition to bolster its position in the market.
As of early 2023 the company had six million customers in the UK.
