The Floow overview

The Floow offers ‘device-agnostic’ data collection, storage, management & enhancement and interpretation. The venture can provide auto insurers with contextual analysis of behavioural data captures from any telematics-sensing device, such as a smartphone, and offer accurate economics, safety and environment predictions.

With its own whitelabel smartphone app which can be quickly branded by any corporate client, data can be collected on driver safety & distraction as well as speed, cornering and other key risk metrics. This data can power a number of The Floow's solutions including driver coaching, fleet management, rewards schemes and insurance products. In addition, a hardware device (FloowTag) can be installed in a vehicle's windscreen which, when paired with the driver's smartphone, enables easier tracking of driver activity.

In September 2017 the venture partnered with Fidelidade to launch an app (‘Fidelidade Drive’) within the Portuguese insurance market, claiming it to be the first app that monitors and rewards driving behaviour in the country. Their digital end-user services help to increase customer engagement and loyalty. The following year, they were named in the INSURTECH100, an annual list compiled by industry experts celebrating the world's most innovative companies in the insurance space.

In May 2019, The Floow partnered with Munich Re. In January 2020 its subsidiary ERGO launched a 'Safe Drive' telematics insurance proposition, leveraging The Floow's FloowDrive Solution. Safe Drive is aimed at drivers under 25, and collects journey data (such as speed, distractions and smooth driving) so analyse driving behaviour, which could in turn lead to en end of year bonus for consistently good driving scores.

The venture has received investment from DirectLine, Fosun and United Electronics, amongst others.

In May 2021 The Floow and Direct Line expanded their telematics partnership with the launch of a smartphone app-only version of DrivePlus, which started life as a black box proposition. The new fully digital experience aims to increase road safety and make insurance more accessible to young drivers, with potential savings of up to 20% available.
