Dialogue overview

Dialogue, founded in 2016, is a virtual healthcare platform that offers physical health, mental health, an Employee Assistance Program, and wellness. As well as providing telehealth appointments with Doctors, the app also offers access to psychologists, nutritionists, fitness and more.

Its integrated health platform enables companies to manage health benefits from a single place for ease of HR teams, with self-serve reporting and actionable insights, and programs that can scale to meet needs and budgets. For members, Dialogue offers a singular app for awareness and wellness, and one shared e-medical record to ensure better co-ordinated care.

Dialogue provides services to nearly 2.8m members across 50k organisations in both Canada and internationally.

In 2019 Dialogue announced it had raised a $40m Series B, led by Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and Holtzbrinck Ventures. Portag3 Ventures, White Star Capital and National Bank of Canada were amongst some of the other participants. CEO Cherif Habib stated that the investment would be used to consolidate the startup's Canadians expansion and further expand in Europe.

Canada Life partnered with Dialogue to offer its benefit plan customers access to Dialogue's bilingual healthcare platform and integrated health services, which include 24/7 live chat with healthcare professionals.

In 2020 Dialogue announced it had acquired ARGUMED Consulting Group, a German occupational health and safety services company, marking an expansion opportunity in Europe and a new product offering. This was followed by the acquisition of Optima Global Health in October.

In July 2020 Sun Life announced a strategic commercial partnership and $32.7m equity investment into Dialogue, giving them a minority ownership in the company, with customary rights to acquire additional equity. Follow-on investments from existing backers were also included.

In March 2021 Dialogue raised around $100 million through its initial public offering after selling around 8.3m common shares. Dialogue stated that it plans to launch new health and wellness programs following the closing of the IPO.

In May 2021 Dialogue expanded into iCBT, after acquiring e-HUB Health, a digital cognitive behavioural therapy company.

The following year, in April 2022, Dialogue announced another acquisition, this time with UK-based Tictrac, for up to $56m. Tictrac is a SaaS-based global health and wellness platform.

That same month, the company launched Mental Health+, to streamline and build upon its current mental health offerings. It will include CBT, stepped care support such as coach-support self-therapy, and clinical assessment.

In July 2023 it was announced that Sun Life was to acquire Dialogue for $5.15 per common share, which would mean a $365m total equity value, on a fully diluted basis. Dialogue will continue to operate as a standalone entity based in Montréal.
