Find out moreERGO is one of the major insurance groups in Germany and Europe. Worldwide, the Group is represented in over 30 countries and concentrates on Europe and Asia.
In its home market of Germany, ERGO ranks among the leading providers across all segments. About 42,000 people work for the Group, either as salaried employees or as registered sales representatives. In 2017, ERGO recorded a total premium income of 19 billion euros and rendered benefits to customers (gross) of 18 billion euros.
German, international, and direct and digital business are bundled in three separate units – ERGO Deutschland AG, ERGO International AG, and ERGO Digital Ventures AG – under the umbrella of ERGO Group AG. Traditional German business is concentrated in ERGO Deutschland AG. ERGO International AG manages the Group’s international business, while the third pillar, ERGO Digital Ventures AG, is responsible for all of the Group’s digital and direct activities.
In 2018 ERGO Group announced that it would be selling its life insurance business in Russia to Rosgosstrakh, a unique Russian insurance company and one of the country’s market leaders in the non-life insurance segment with almost 100 years of history.
In January 2020 ERGO launched a 'Safe Drive' telematics insurance proposition, leveraging The Floow's FloowDrive Solution. Safe Drive is aimed at drivers under 25, and collects journey data (such as speed, distractions and smooth driving) so analyse driving behaviour, which could in turn lead to an end of year bonus for consistently good driving scores.
In July 2021 ERGO and Munich Re partnered with Singapore's Zensung to launch Parrot Safe Driver, a green insurance policy which uses AI to make buying and monitoring insurance easier. It also enables users to check their CO2 emissions for each journey, and compensate them.
In October 2022, ERGO Travel Insurance launched a new service with Air Doctor, enabling their customers to have access to medical assistance wherever they travel in the world. Air Doctor provides access to over 20k doctors across 75 countries, with multiple specialists available.
In June 2023 ERGO launched a real-time VR insurance advisory app with Demodern, enabling customers to receive live advice in a virtual insurance scenario through a VR app and headset.
In August 2023, HDFC ERGO teamed up with Duck Creek Technologies, with the latter offering HDFC ERGO the ability to create hyper-personalised insurance solutions. The partnership marks Duck Creek's entrance intro the Indian market.
ERGO is part of Munich Re, one of the top global reinsurers and risk carriers. The Group’s asset manager and fund provider, MEAG, also manages the investments of ERGO amounting to 133 billion euros.
