British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) overview

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) is a UK-based general insurance intermediary serving insurance brokers, intermediaries and their customers.

Viewed as the voice of the industry, BIBA advises members, regulators, consumer bodies and other stakeholders on a diverse set of insurance-related issues, including regulation, operations, claims and innovation.

BIBA have also launched a digital Brexit hub to help insurance companies fully understand how Brexit could affect them, and how to minimise the potential impact it could have.

BIBA membership includes just under 2,000 regulated firms, employing more than 100,000 staff to help more than 550,000 people access suitable coverage each year.

In 2019, BIBA released its 2019 manifesto titled Risks & Opportunities. Put together from members’ feedback, it contains 30 calls to action and 26 commitments. As part of the manifesto, BIBA will be launching a "dating service" where members can connect with relevant technology providers to maximise the opportunities arising from the InsurTech revolution and emerging risk categories.

Later that year, BIBA teamed up with insurtech Worry + Peace in order to bolster its digital capabilities. As part of the alliance, they will have access to Marketplace by Worry+Peace, a platform that is designed to connect buyers of both consumer and commercial lines to insurance providers across the market.

BIBA's 2020 manifesto, launched in January, gave specific focus on areas including Open Insurance platforms, cover for vulnerable or chronically ill customers and disaster risks.
