Verily overview

Formerly known as Google Life Sciences, Verily is a life sciences research company. The company previously belonged to Google X, but became an independent subsidiary of Alphabet Inc in 2015.

Verily is developing tools to collect and organise health data, and consequently create solutions, interventions ad platforms that use insights derived from the data to create better overall health management.

Verily currently has a number of projects under development. Its projects fall under four main categories: sensors, interventions, health platforms & population health tools, and precision medicine. It is working with other companies, such as AstraZeneca, the NHS and Nikon, on many of these projects.

In January 2019, Verily raised $1bn in funding in a round led by Silver Lake. CEO Andrew Conrad stated the external funding is used to 'increase flexibility and optionality as [Verily] expand on [its] core strategic focus areas.'

In August 2020 Verily partnered with Swiss Re to launch a new health insurance venture - the Coefficient Insurance Company. The new Verily subsidiary will help self-funded employers by providing stop-loss insurance, and will leverage Verily's tech and data science, and Swiss Re Corporate's distribution model.
